These lovebirds were friends for many years before they finally confessed their feelings for each other! They met in university, so have known each other a long time. I’m going to let H do the talking about their proposal story because she can put it better than me. They tied the knot at Silvertip Golf Course, and had an Exshaw wedding reception at the legion.
The proposal: “He took me to Vegas to see our beloved Edmonton Oilers and that weekend we drove out into California on a day trip in Death Valley National Park. I am a really big U2 fan and wanted to go back to Zabriskie Point (the iconic image off U2’s Joshua Tree album cover was shot there). He knew it would be the perfect place. We drove all day and had lunch out in Stovepipe Wells, the whole time he had the ring in his pocket and was nervous. I was oblivious to it all.
We hiked up to the top of Zabriskie Point after lunch and I was nattering on about Anton Corbjin or The Edge or Bono or something. I turned around and he was down on one knee…I thought he’d hurt himself! Tried to help him up, lol! You think about that moment, imagine it in your head, your reaction….the tears, the words he might use, how romantic it will be. When he asked I never cried or anything just blurted out, “Wait…are you really asking me!?” I snatched the ring out of his trembling hand worried he would drop it off the top of Zabriskie Point. We laughed and laughed!
It was the perfect moment but also HILARIOUS because I was so surprised I nearly botched the whole thing! I was the HAPPIEST lady in the entire world! It was totally the opposite of the crying emotional mess I thought I would be. We’re so in love its gross.”
